In 1986, Mr. Roger Lilly was looking for opportunities to allow him to support his wife and three children. After much brainstorming, the idea of starting his own cabinet and countertop business was born while sitting at his dining room table.
Originally, Mr. Lilly ran his business out of the back of his station wagon. Eventually, the trunk wasn’t large enough for his growing business. He established a showroom and light fabrication facility in a building at the heart of the Crossroads area on Williamson Road in Roanoke, VA. Mr. Lilly’s business proved very successful at that location. By 1993, he had outgrown that facility also. He purchased a warehouse in downtown Roanoke, located at 357 Salem Ave. This 10,000 square foot warehouse proved to be an excellent location, providing space for Mr. Lilly to expand his capabilities.
By 1998, Five Star Fab & Fixture had grown to about 20 employees. Mr. Lilly realized that if he were going to be successful, he must invest in automated machine technology. This would require additional manufacturing floorspace, which was not available at 357 Salem Ave. So, in 1999, Five Star Fab & Fixture moved into a warehouse at 400 Salem Ave. While just across the street from their previous location, it provided approximately 36,000 square feet, of which 18,000 square feet could be used for manufacturing, 12,000 square feet for warehousing and storage, and 6,000 square feet for a showroom and offices. However, after only six years at this location, Five Star Fab & Fixture grew too large for that facility. Again, the search was on for a new location for our manufacturing and office staff.
In April 2006, Five Star Fab & Fixture moved to a new facility, located at 2161 Salem Industrial Drive, Salem, VA 24153. This new building provided about 84,000 total square feet. Of this, approximately 8,000 square feet is used for offices and 52,000 square feet is used for manufacturing and warehouse space. This has truly been an exciting period of growth as we continue to expand our capabilities and product offerings.
Presently, Five Star Fab & Fixture employs about 60 residents of Salem, Roanoke and Fishersville, Virginia. We are very proud to work with some of the best talent available. Each member of our team has proved to be valuable in contributing to the success and growth of Five Star Fab & Fixture. We look forward to many years of growth and success working together!
